Thin-Walled Commercially Pure Titanium Structures: Laser Powder Bed Fusion Process Parameter Optimization

Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process parameters can be changeable depending on the part geometry due to thermal conductivity differences. The number of studies parameter development for commercial pure titanium (Cp-Ti) with L-PBF is also quite limited in literature. aim this study present a comprehensive production Cp-Ti bulk and thin structures technology. In first phase, right parameters, including scan speed, laser power, hatch distance, layer thickness, were identified prismatic specimens walls so that obtained could used both bulky sections features such as lattice structures. varied change volumetric energy density from 19 208 J/mm3 among 80 different sets. Parameter sets having Volumetric Energy Density (VED) value between 32 47 gave almost fully dense parts while power was set 200–250 W speed 1000–1400 mm/s. Finally, Vickers hardness tensile tests applied highly parts. This involving investigating effect wide range demonstrated favorable manufacturing technology full good mechanical properties well dimensional accuracy even geometries. Moreover, results show combining into single one, i.e., VED, not proper way optimize since increasing or decreasing may alter results, although VED increased manners.
